Join Blair Stocker & Creativebug Live to stitch a spring bandana using chicken scratch embroidery. This vintage technique is easy to learn and customize and is always stitched on gingham check. In this beginner-friendly class, Blair shows you how to transform a simple piece of gingham fabric into a charming, hand-embroidered accessory using classic chicken scratch stitching. You’ll learn her favorite tips for choosing colors, placement of the motif, and ways to change up and vary the pattern.
Here’s what you’ll need:
For a finished size of bandana approximately 17” square.

  • 1 fat quarter of gingham with individual squares sized at ¼” each
  • 6-strand embroidery floss in 4 colors, including green for leaves and three tonal shades for the flowers; Blair is using Dark Pink, Medium Pink, and Light Pink
  • One hand embroidery needle, size 3-5
  • 6” embroidery hoop or similar size
  • Fabric marker like a Frixion pen
  • Iron and ironing surface
  • To hem the ends of the bandana, you will need a sewing machine with coordinating thread

I can't wait to start!  I have a tub of old gingham pieces that I want to practice on.  Great class, Blair!

It is very informative and interesting. I love the chicken stratch look, I love the how to video. I will check know out Blair's other classes and most likely  buy her book when it comes out in the fall

I had taken a previous class with Blair (with Quiltfolk) and this was a good review of what I had learned previously
