I really loved this class, but agree that it is not quite beginner friendly! There are a number of things that aren’t very clear, like block assembly on day 3/4. Also, on page 12 of the PDF for the Section Five setting, the measurement of the black strip is wrong- is should be 2 1/2 x 16 1/2 and not 8 1/2”. Overall I liked the skill building, but I am already a confident sewist. I have never made a quilt before, but I am not a beginner. If you do not have good basic sewing skills, I would not recommend this.

I liked the final quilt, and I did enjoy learning different types of blocks, however I did not think this was a beginner friendly class. One problem I ran into was that in the videos she would say things like "trim to a 4-inch square" or similar, so I did, and all my blocks were short by 1/2 an inch. I asked my mom about it, who has been quilting for years, and she said really what you need to do is trim the square to 4.5x4.5". And this just wasn't explained in the videos or the accompanying pdf. Also, for one of the blocks on day 4, it was unclear that part of the block was going to be used for assembly later, and as a final block dimension was provided for that day I had made it incorrectly and didn't realize it until the final assembly days. One of the applique shapes was not referenced at all in the pdf (number 7), but I was pretty sure she meant this one instead of piece 1 for one of the applique's. I really loved the idea of this quilt, but I definitely wouldn't have said it was a beginner quilt with how it was presented. A little more instruction in the pdf's and the videos really would have helped.

Great class showing different ways to create a variety of blocks. I will definitely review again and actually follow along the next time. I think I got lost on a few of the blocks. The quilt is lovely, different from many others. Great way to use up scraps to make a colorful masterpiece and showcase some quilting skills. Someone will love this gift. But, then again, I may have to keep this one.

I love every class taught by Anna Maria Horner! She is not only a great teacher, her fabrics that she designs are beautiful and her use of these fabrics in her quilts are always very inspiring. I look forward to more classes taught by Anna Maria Horner in the future.
